PROFESSIONAL ACCOUNTING OR TAXATION TECHNICIAN – Level: 4

Individuals in the role of a Professional Accounting/Tax Technician will have responsibility for creating, and / or verifying and reviewing, accurate and timely financial information within the organization in which they are employed or on behalf of another organization. This will be performed in order to meet relevant ethical, professional and legal standards, and will utilize the individual’s knowledge of the business systems and processes, as well as standard accounting and tax practices. This role may exist in an accounting practice, a professional services company, HMRC or the accounting function of a business or other organization.

This occupation covers two areas of specialism, accounting and tax. A successful apprentice will have met the core requirements common to both areas and one of the two technical knowledge option requirements. A competent Professional Accounting/Tax Technician, on completion of the Apprenticeship Standard, will meet the following requirements.

On-programme Assessment

An Apprentice following either the Examination Route or the Work Experience Route will typically undertake a Regular Progress Review with their Employer (and / or an Approved Training Provider, as required) every three months.

-For Apprentices following the Examination Route they will attempt Examinations set and marked by the relevant Awarding Body for their approved qualification at suitable points in their Apprenticeship.

-For Apprentices following the Work Experience Route, they will carry out work-based assignments to demonstrate competence of the knowledge set out in the Standard.

End-point Assessment

Both components must be individually passed for the Apprentice to be deemed competent:

A Portfolio of evidence that demonstrates competence in the Knowledge, Skills and Behaviors defined in the Standard, which have been gathered from practical experience in the workplace.

A Role Simulation giving the Apprentice the opportunity to tackle a series of business-related tasks through a simulation that reflects activities undertaken in a typical role at this level of competence.

Upon completion learner can progress towards degree level qualification at university or degree level apprenticeship.

Learners can also join ACCA, CIMA or other professional accountancy bodies.

Examples of roles as a Professional Accounting/Tax Technician include, but are not limited to, Assistant Auditor, Assistant Management Accountant, Assistant Financial Accountant, Accounts Payable and Expenses Supervisor, Commercial Analyst, Payroll Manager, Senior Bookkeeper, Senior Financial Officer, Tax Investigations Officer, Personal Tax Assistant and Business Tax Assistant.

Currently due to COVID 19 we are teaching online learning. All of our classes are conducted through online Microsoft Teams or Zoom. All of our assessments are also submitted through online systems and feedback is provided to the learners. If any learners will need extra support, we will provide 1-to-1 tutorials to mee their learning needs. However, we will move towards campus-based studies upon the government guidelines and needs of our employers and apprentices.
